Nearly Forgotten Oatmeal Cookies

There is a story behind this nearly forgotten statement. Last night I told Bob that I would bake oatmeal cookies for him in exchange for making a light box. As he was making the box, I looked at my calendar, my notes, and I looked throughout the house for something that I just knew I was forgetting. Uh huh...LOL...have you guessed by now? I forgot to make the cookies! He kept it under his hat until nearly bedtime. When I saw the silly grin on his face I asked him what he was up to, he said, "Hmmm...I think I recall a 7 letter word that has something to do with building a light box." Ha ha ha...it only took a moment, I figured out oatmeal...outmeal cookies!

When we got married, I also happily married this (greater than) 25 year old Kitchen Aid mixer. I love that baby!

The top photo shows some of my cookbooks. I love the tried and true books. My grandmother and aunt are in many of the church and small Missouri town books that I have on my shelf (about 15 of these types of books). I do not cook as often as I would like. I LOVE to cook! I need so much more time in my life. As it is, I cook when I can work it in. It makes me sad, but I have to pick and choose. Speaking of pick, I also have a picky husband. So, there isn't a lot of variety, but I sneak things in now and then!

Cookies ready to hit the oven...

Honey...you're home. Martha Stewart would be proud. Warm cookies and milk! And of course, we always drink from a jelly jar. Nothing else is presentable, and nothing else makes milk taste so good! And if you are wondering, I drink the goat milk, he goes for cow (unless I include goat milk in a recipe).

Finally...quit your belly aching! Love you, dear.

On the one hand I was disappointe that these tired old eyes couldn't read the Oatmeal Cookie recipe. And on the other hand I thought that was a good thing seeing as the copywrite police are freakin everywhere.

Kidding!

Mary, I love your posts so much. I love reading about the goats, and the soap, and the farm and the tractors, and light boxes, and the cookies. And I love your photos the one of the inside and the outside. I love peeking into your home - it's so warm and lovely. I can almost smell those cookies baking.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Yummy! We sometimes drink out of mason jars too if there isn't anything else to drink out of and that's what we usually put our goat milk in anyways when it is for ourselves.

Yep, the recipe is a little blurry. Decided to keep the pic anyhow. :) Glad you enjoyed the post, Alix.

Amy, I just covered the cookies with foil. They taste better now that they have crisped up a bit. Yummy, is right!!

Thanks, Jenn.

Mary, would you describe the oatmeal cookies as crispy or chewy? I'm looking for a good chewy recipe. I can't see the ingredients either.

on the frozen milk post, you didn't mention the milk used for soap making or maybe I missed it. How much goes to your soap making?

I'll post the recipe! I describe them as chewy. The mister will not eat crispy cookies.

I use straight goat milk in the soap, no water. I also use GM in the lotion, and some distilled water. I did forget to mention all of that, didn't I?

Keep me in line! I need all of the help I can get!!! :)

I LOVE crispy cookies, he doesn't know what is yummy, LOL! You having one of your senile moments, dear, hehehe even though your younger than my parents. We used straight GM when making soap too.

Hubby and I prefer chewy oatmeal cookies too, and if I give him a heads up on me baking oatmeal cookies, then forget, my goodness...I have ruined his day! We too remember the days of milk out of Mason jars, and I miss those days. But we do have the sheep and so many other blessings. Just wish we had lived in the country much sooner than we had and raised milk goats from the beginning of our years together.

Yep, the blessing abound, and things fall into place for reasons. It sounds like you have an oatmeal cookie "monster" in the house too. :)
